IFAD, FG TRAIN 697 YOUNG FARMERS IN ONDO TO BOOST AGRIBUSINESS
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Federal Government have trained 697 young farmers in Ondo as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural productivity and encourage youth participation in agribusiness.
The training programme, carried out under ongoing agricultural development initiatives, focused on equipping participants with modern farming techniques, value-chain development skills, and improved agribusiness practices.
Officials said the initiative is designed to address youth unemployment while boosting food production and rural economic growth across participating communities.
Beneficiaries were also exposed to practical sessions on climate-smart agriculture, financial management, and market access strategies aimed at improving farm sustainability and profitability.
Stakeholders noted that empowering young farmers is critical to achieving food security and reducing dependence on food imports in Nigeria.
The programme is part of broader collaboration between government agencies and international development partners aimed at transforming agriculture into a more attractive and commercially viable sector for young people.
Organisers added that similar training exercises will continue in other states as part of efforts to scale agricultural innovation and strengthen rural livelihoods nationwide.
