IG HIGHLIGHTS PCRC’S ROLE IN INTELLIGENCE GATHERING, GRASSROOTS SECURITY
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has described the Police Community Relations Committee as a vital partner in intelligence gathering and grassroots security across Nigeria.
Disu remarked while receiving PCRC leaders during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, commending the committee for its longstanding support to the Nigeria Police Force.
According to a statement issued Thursday by the PCRC Director of Global Communication and Media Relations, Olayemi Esan, the IGP praised the organisation for providing both material and moral assistance to police formations nationwide, while also helping prevent crises through community-based intelligence.
“The PCRC has remained a very strong partner of the Nigerian Police. Your contributions to intelligence gathering and community policing cannot be overemphasised,” Disu said.
He recalled the committee’s role during a 10-day nationwide protest when he served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, noting that their collaboration helped maintain calm despite widespread tension.
Disu also revealed a personal connection to the organisation, stating that his father is a life member of the PCRC and had long supported police operations in his community.
The police boss assured the committee of continued recognition by the Force Management Team and encouraged closer engagement with senior officers to improve coordination and reduce bureaucracy.
He, however, cautioned members against misusing the PCRC platform, urging them to uphold integrity and avoid using the organisation’s identity for unlawful activities.
Earlier, PCRC National Chairman Ibrahim Olaniyan said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with the police and reaffirming the committee’s support under Disu’s leadership.
Olaniyan noted that the PCRC, which will mark its 42nd anniversary on May 7, 2026, remains committed to supporting the police through grassroots mobilisation, humanitarian efforts, and intelligence sharing.
