IGBOHO APPEALS TO OONI OF IFE TO HELP CLEAR HIS NAME, UNFREEZE BANK ACCOUNTS

Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, has called on the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to intervene and urge the Federal Government to remove his name from the wanted list.

He also appealed to the monarch to help facilitate the unfreezing of his bank accounts and lift the restrictions placed on them.

In July 2021, Igboho was declared wanted by the Department of State Services after a raid on his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, where weapons were reportedly discovered. He fled the country shortly after and went into hiding in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

During a visit to the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife on Saturday, Igboho tendered an apology to the traditional ruler for his past criticisms, expressing remorse and respect.

Speaking in Yoruba, he said, “Please forgive and forget any offence I may have committed against you. You are a father to me, and I know you have already shown forgiveness through the warm welcome you’ve given me.”

He continued, “I am here once again to seek your support. I remain on the Federal Government’s wanted list, and I’m asking for your help to clear my name. My bank accounts are also frozen, and I need your assistance to lift the embargo.”

He recounted advice from the Olowo of Owo, who urged him to seek the Ooni’s intervention as a highly respected authority.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
