IGBOHO SEEKS WIDER SECURITY ROLE FOR TRADITIONAL RULERS
Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has urged greater involvement of traditional rulers in protecting communities across the South-West.
Speaking on Sunday at the launch of the Iru Ekun Security Network at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Igboho described the organisation as an initiative rooted in the region’s traditional institutions.
His media office said the network had attracted at least 20,000 volunteers in Oyo State. The figure represents the organisation’s account of its membership.
Igboho said his recent visit to Abuja focused on strengthening the network’s security responsibilities and improving its ability to protect communities.
According to the statement, the Oyo inauguration followed launches in Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun and Ondo states, as well as consultations with monarchs and community leaders.
The organisation said its activities extended across Yorubaland and parts of Kwara and Niger states.
It also reported collaboration with the Army, police, Department of State Services and other security agencies in addressing kidnapping, killings and related threats.
Praising the turnout in Ibadan, Igboho said the volunteers’ participation showed a willingness to contribute to community safety across ethnic, religious and political lines.
He emphasised cooperation among traditional institutions, residents and established security agencies as part of efforts to address insecurity.
