IGP’S REFORMS ON CASE TRANSFERS, ABUSE OF OFFICE A ‘GAME-CHANGER’
A civic group, Justice Watch Initiative (JWI), has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, for his recent reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and professionalism in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
In a statement, JWI President Ikechukwu Obiorah described the IGP’s directives—especially those addressing indiscriminate case transfers, abuse of office, and frivolous petitions—as a groundbreaking step toward reshaping law enforcement in Nigeria.
Obiorah noted that IGP Egbetokun is not just a reform-minded leader but a determined and visionary police chief with a strong commitment to institutional change.
“These reforms focus on transparency, professionalism, and accountability—the core pillars of effective policing,” he said. “This is a strong statement that the Nigeria Police is undergoing genuine transformation.”
JWI emphasized that for years, Nigerians have suffered from the endless and unjustified movement of cases between divisions, leading to delays, frustration for victims, and exploitation by unscrupulous officers.
“This unhealthy practice has not only slowed down justice delivery but has also allowed some corrupt officers to take financial advantage of complainants. By addressing this issue head-on, the IGP has demonstrated his deep understanding of the challenges facing the force and his resolve to fix them
