Ikeja Electric has apologised to customers over the ongoing power supply disruptions across parts of its network, blaming the situation on gas supply challenges affecting electricity generation on the national grid.

In a public notice issued on Friday, the electricity distribution company acknowledged the inconvenience caused to residents and businesses and assured customers that efforts were ongoing to resolve the issue.

“We understand the inconvenience the current power supply challenges may be causing you, and we sincerely apologise for the disruption to your daily activities,” the company stated.

According to Ikeja Electric, the disruption is linked to reduced generation capacity on the national grid, which has resulted in increased load shedding across several feeders within its network.

“The situation is due to gas supply constraints affecting power generation on the national grid, which has led to increased load shedding across our feeders,” the company said.

The disco added that stakeholders in the power sector were working to restore stability to the electricity supply.

“Please be assured that relevant stakeholders are working tirelessly to address the generation shortfall and restore stability to the grid,” the notice added.

Ikeja Electric also noted that it was closely monitoring developments and would continue to update customers as improvements occur.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Independent System Operator disclosed on Thursday that Nigeria’s electricity generation dropped below 4,000 megawatts due to persistent gas shortages affecting thermal power plants nationwide.

The operator said the national grid generated only 3,940.53 megawatts as of 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, highlighting the impact of fuel supply constraints on electricity generation across the country.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
