IKORODU RESIDENTS FORM HUMAN CHAIN TO NAVIGATE FLOODED STREETS AFTER HEAVY RAIN

Flooded Again: Ikorodu Residents Brave Murky Waters After Heavy Downpour
Heavy rainfall has once again brought hardship to residents of Ikorodu, Lagos, as parts of the community were left completely flooded, forcing locals to form a human queue to safely pass through waterlogged areas.
A video currently circulating on social media captures the heartbreaking yet resilient scene—men, women, and even children, some carrying bags, taking cautious steps as they navigate through the muddy and waist-deep water.
The rain, which fell heavily overnight and into the morning, overwhelmed the community’s already poor drainage system, turning roads into rivers and disrupting movement across the area.
Eyewitnesses said this is not the first time residents have faced such flooding. “It happens every time it rains heavily. We just find way to survive it,” one resident said.
The footage has sparked fresh calls from residents for immediate government intervention, especially with the peak of the rainy season yet to come. Many are demanding improved drainage, better urban planning, and emergency response strategies to help manage the recurring crisis.
As climate change and urban overcrowding continue to strain Lagos' infrastructure, communities like Ikorodu remain vulnerable to the growing impact of extreme weather.
Residents are urging the Lagos State Government and environmental agencies to take urgent, long-term action before the next heavy downpour brings more devastation.
