Residents of Ikotun and neighboring communities in Lagos State have commended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the Commander of the Command Tactical Team at Ijegun Annex for notable improvements in security and a marked reduction in criminal activities.

In separate interviews, community members noted a significant decline in crime, attributing the progress to effective policing and consistent supervision by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.

The praise follows a recent security operation triggered by a distress call from a member of the Community Development Association (CDA) in Arikejohn, White Sand community, Isheri-Oshun. The alert highlighted the activities of suspected cult gangs reportedly linked to a drug baron and illicit drug dealers, whose residence allegedly served as a hub for planning criminal operations.

Acting on the information, police operatives raided the hideout and recovered large quantities of illegal drugs, an operation residents described as a major breakthrough in the fight against cultism and drug-related crimes in the area.

Chief Christopher Nwaka, a supermarket owner near Ikotun Market, said the community played an active role in exposing criminal activities. “We all worked together in uncovering the atrocities of these criminals. The police responded promptly and professionally,” he said.

Otunba Adebowale, a retired Customs officer and Ijegun resident, also praised the officers for their dedication and effectiveness. “I have lived here for about ten years and am familiar with happenings from Ikotun to Ijegun and beyond. The officers serving these areas are doing a commendable job and deserve recognition,” he said.

Residents expressed optimism that continued collaboration between the police and the community would further strengthen safety and security in the area.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
