Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of the P-Square duo, has opened up about his deepest fear — and surprisingly, it is not death.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Nancy Isime Show, the award-winning singer revealed that his greatest fear in life is poverty, not dying.

Mr P explained that his fear is rooted in painful childhood experiences that shaped him and his siblings.

According to him, he once lived with his parents and seven siblings — six boys and two girls — in a single-room boys’ quarters. The family used a curtain to divide the room for privacy.

He recalled a particularly traumatic day when the landlord sold the property and ordered an immediate evacuation. While the family was still pleading for more time, a bulldozer arrived and began demolishing the building with them still inside.

He said:

“I am not afraid of death. The only thing I am afraid of in this life is poverty, of being broke.
I have tasted it before. We were living in a one-bedroom apartment — all of us — when a bulldozer came and demolished the house while we were still inside.”

The singer added that the experience left a permanent mark on him, fueling his determination to work hard and never return to poverty.

Mr P’s revelation has sparked emotional reactions online, with many Nigerians relating to his story of struggle, survival, and transformation.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
