‘IMMIGRANTS FROM SHITHOUSE COUNTRY, NOT WELCOME,’ TRUMP BLASTS NORWAY OVER NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
US President Donald Trump has lashed out at Norway over his failure to win the Nobel Peace Prize, saying immigrants from the country were not welcome in the United States.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday, Trump used a vulgar insult to describe Norway and linked his remarks about immigration directly to the Nobel Committee’s decision.
Trump, who has repeatedly expressed his desire to receive the award since returning to the White House in January 2025, criticised this year’s selection of South African judge and former United Nations human rights chief Navi Pillay.
He described the committee’s choice as “a disgraceful and embarrassing decision,” insisting that he deserved the honour.
During the rally, held ahead of the November 3 US midterm elections, Trump said he would welcome immigrants from some countries but excluded Norway “because I didn’t get the Nobel Prize.”
Despite his comments, there was no official indication that the United States had introduced a new immigration policy targeting Norwegians.
Responding on Monday, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stressed that the Nobel Committee operates independently of the country’s government.
He told national broadcaster NRK that Trump was aware of that independence and that Norwegian officials had reminded him of it.
The remarks also recalled a controversy during Trump’s first term in 2018, when he faced criticism for using similar offensive language about Haiti and some African countries.
