IMMIGRATION BOSS SUSPENDS LAGOS-SEME COMMANDERS OVER EXTORTION ALLEGATIONS
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, has suspended commanding officers along the Lagos-Seme border corridor following allegations of extortion by personnel.
Nandap also ordered an immediate investigation into the incidents after online reports and videos highlighted misconduct by officers stationed along the route.
In a statement issued by the Service’s spokesperson, the agency condemned the alleged actions, describing them as a violation of its core values, ethics, and operational standards.
While the number of affected officers and specific commands was not disclosed, the Service said the probe would identify all personnel involved and ensure appropriate disciplinary measures are taken.
The Lagos-Seme corridor, linking Nigeria to the Republic of Benin through the Seme border, remains one of West Africa’s busiest routes for trade and travel and has frequently been associated with complaints of harassment and extortion.
The Service reiterated its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and accountability, stressing that it would not tolerate any conduct that undermines public trust.
It also encouraged members of the public to report cases of misconduct through its official communication channels, assuring that all complaints would be treated promptly.
