INCUMBENT SENATOR LOSES OSUN APC SENATORIAL TICKET
The Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has lost the All Progressives Congress senatorial ticket for the 2027 general elections to Adekunle Adegoke (SAN).
The result was announced after the APC senatorial primary elections held across Osun State.
Also emerging victorious was Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who secured the APC ticket for the Osun East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.
Fadahunsi currently represents Osun East in the Senate and serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industry.
He was first elected into the Senate in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and retained the seat in 2023 under the same party before defecting to the APC in 2025 alongside four other PDP lawmakers.
In a video obtained on Tuesday, the chairman of the Osun APC Primary Election Committee, Bayo Ayo, announced that Fadahunsi polled 23,593 votes to defeat his opponents, Famurewa Isreal and Thomas Ogungbangbe, who scored 472 and 806 votes, respectively.
“Fadahunsi scored 23,593 votes to defeat his opponents, Mr Famurewa Isreal and Mr Thomas Ogungbangbe, who got 472 and 806 votes respectively,” Ayo stated.
In the Osun Central Senatorial District contest, Adegoke defeated incumbent senator Fadeyi after polling 26,655 votes, while Fadeyi secured 13,138 votes.
“Adegoke polled 26,655 votes to emerge victorious, while Fadeyi received 13,138 votes,” Ayo announced.
Other aspirants in the race included Yomi Ogunwale, who polled 2,925 votes, Akintunde Adegboye with 342 votes, and Olu Fakeye, who received 67 votes.
In Osun West Senatorial District, insurance executive Dr Akin Ogunbiyi emerged winner of the APC ticket with 30,568 votes.
His closest challenger, Gafar Akintayo, scored 1,215 votes, while Peter Ogundeji, who had earlier withdrawn from the race, received 14 votes.
Following the completion of the primaries, the Osun APC leadership commended party members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
In a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the APC congratulated candidates, aspirants, and supporters while urging aggrieved members to pursue constitutional means to address complaints.
The party also appealed for calm and advised supporters to avoid inflammatory comments capable of causing internal divisions.
“There’s no winner and no vanquished in this sportsmanlike NASS primary elections as our party and the entire people of the state were the overall winners of the elections,” the statement partly read.
