The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has expressed the Commission’s readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to ensure the smooth conduct of the 2027 general elections.

Amupitan made the remark while responding to an assurance of support from the Air Force during a courtesy visit by NAF officials to INEC’s headquarters in Abuja.

During the visit, the Air Force offered to assist the Commission with logistics and to join other security agencies in providing security during the elections.

Speaking on the importance of logistics in election management, Amupitan emphasised that the success of any election largely depends on effective logistical arrangements.

“I have always said that an election can only be as good as its logistics. Considering the logistics challenges we have faced in the past, it has become clear to me that INEC may not have fully explored the vast logistics capacity available within the military,” he said.

He noted that his private discussions with the Air Force leadership had highlighted several practical logistics strategies that could help address the Commission’s operational challenges.

Amupitan added that INEC would be pleased to work closely with the Air Force and other branches of the military to improve the efficiency of election logistics.

“We will be glad to collaborate with you to see how we can overcome some of the logistics challenges we have experienced,” he said.

“I am pleased to note that we can effectively work with the Air Force, as well as other military arms, to ensure a strong and reliable logistics system.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
