The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun distributing sensitive election materials to local government areas in Edo State, ahead of the by-elections scheduled for Saturday.

The distribution exercise took place at the Benin branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with representatives from political parties and civil society organisations present to witness the process.

Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Edo State, Prof. Anugbum Onuoha, told journalists that the commission involved all political parties to ensure transparency and fairness in the handling of election materials.

“The exercise so far has been seamless, and we are fully prepared,” Onuoha said. “The sensitive materials will now be dispatched to the seven local government areas where the elections will take place.”

Political stakeholders in attendance expressed satisfaction with the process, highlighting INEC’s efforts to maintain credibility ahead of the polls.

As Edo residents prepare to cast their votes, the commission has reassured the public that all measures are being taken to guarantee a smooth and transparent election.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
