INEC RELEASES PERSONAL DETAILS OF CANDIDATES FOR 2025 ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the personal information of candidates contesting the 2025 Anambra State governorship election, following the completion of party primaries and the submission of nomination forms.
According to a statement from Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, sixteen political parties submitted their candidate nomination forms before the 6:00 p.m. deadline on Monday, May 12, 2025.
In line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC has made public the candidates’ Form EC9, academic qualifications, and other relevant documents. These have been displayed at the commission’s State Headquarters and all 21 Local Government offices across Anambra State, allowing the public to review the submissions.
“The commission has published the personal details of each candidate and their running mates to facilitate public scrutiny of their credentials,” the statement said.
INEC further reminded aspirants who participated in party primaries that they have the right to challenge any candidate’s nomination in the Federal High Court if they suspect false information has been submitted. This provision is supported by Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.
The commission also announced that the final list of candidates for the election will be released on June 9, 2025, as required by Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act, which mandates publication at least 150 days before the election date.
The governorship election in Anambra State is slated for Saturday, November 8, 2025. INEC encouraged all stakeholders and voters to remain engaged and participate actively in the electoral process.
