The Nigerian Correctional Service in Yobe State has declared an inmate wanted after he escaped following a road accident.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Adamu, the incident occurred on April 13 when a vehicle transporting inmates from Potiskum to Damaturu was involved in a crash.
During rescue efforts at the scene, one of the inmates, Dahiru Mohammed, reportedly fled.
The 30-year-old, from Askiwari village via Tarmuwa, had been in custody since November 29, 2024, and is described by authorities as dangerous.
The correctional service warned the public against interacting with him and urged anyone with useful information to report to the nearest police station or correctional facility.
Authorities also cautioned that harbouring a fugitive is a criminal offence, calling for public cooperation to ensure the inmate is quickly returned to custody.
