IPOB ANNOUNCES APC BOYCOTT OVER DELAY IN NNAMDI KANU’S APPEAL

The Indigenous People of Biafra has announced a political boycott of the All Progressives Congress, accusing the Federal Government of frustrating efforts to hear its detained leader Nnamdi Kanu’s appeal against his conviction.

In a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group urged supporters to stay away from APC rallies and reject the party’s symbols until the appeal is listed for hearing.

“No listing, no participation,” the statement declared.

IPOB alleged that the appeal against the November 20, 2025 judgment remained unlisted and that the government had not filed its respondent’s brief.

The group said the appeal raises constitutional questions, including its argument that Kanu was convicted under a law that had been repealed. It called on the relevant authorities to allow the courts to determine those issues without further procedural delays.

IPOB also alleged that a court file concerning Kanu’s detention following his October 13, 2022 discharge by the Court of Appeal had gone missing. It demanded the file’s restoration, saying it was necessary for efforts to obtain judicial redress.

Beyond the appeal, the group accused the Federal Government of double standards in its security operations, alleging that people in the South-East faced treatment different from that given to armed groups elsewhere.

It also criticised Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi over his involvement in the South-East governors’ 2017 decision to proscribe IPOB.

The supplied statement did not include responses from the Federal Government, the APC or Umahi to the allegations.
