IRAN ACCUSES U.S. OF BLOCKING FAN ACCESS AHEAD OF 2026 WORLD CUP

Iran's football federation has accused the United States of withdrawing its allocated ticket quota for supporters just days before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, raising concerns among fans who had already planned to attend the tournament.

According to the federation, FIFA regulations normally grant participating nations a portion of match tickets for distribution to their supporters. Iranian officials claim that this allocation was unexpectedly revoked, leaving the federation unable to provide tickets for fans wishing to attend Iran's group-stage matches.

The federation described the move as unfair and contrary to the principles of equal treatment among participating nations. It has called on FIFA and tournament organizers to intervene and ensure that Iranian supporters are given a fair opportunity to attend matches.

The dispute comes amid ongoing tensions surrounding Iran's participation in the tournament. In recent weeks, Iranian officials have also raised concerns over visa restrictions affecting members of the country's football delegation. These issues prompted the team to establish its World Cup base in the Mexican city of Tijuana rather than in the United States.

Iran is scheduled to begin its World Cup campaign against New Zealand on June 15 in Los Angeles, followed by matches against Belgium and Egypt later in the group stage. FIFA has not yet issued an official public response regarding the ticket allocation dispute.

With the tournament set to begin within days, many supporters are awaiting clarification on whether the issue will be resolved before kickoff.
