IRAN REPORTEDLY CLAIMS MISSILE STRIKE ON US WARSHIP IN STRAIT OF HORMUZ AMID RISING TENSIONS
Iranian state-linked Fars news agency has reported that Iranian forces carried out a missile attack on a US Navy frigate in the Strait of Hormuz, though the United States military has strongly denied the claim.
According to the report, the alleged incident involved a US Navy frigate said to be sailing near the port of Jask when it was targeted after ignoring warnings from Iranian naval forces. The agency further claimed the vessel was forced to turn back after being hit, though no evidence or independent confirmation was provided.
The US military’s Central Command quickly dismissed the report, stating on X that “no US Navy ships have been struck,” countering the Iranian media narrative.
The alleged attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global shipping route for oil, gas, and other commodities. The waterway has been a flashpoint since the outbreak of wider conflict in the Middle East earlier in 2026.
Iranian authorities have previously warned that foreign military vessels approaching the strait could be targeted, while the United States has said it is taking steps to secure navigation through the strategic route.
The latest claims could not be independently verified, and details such as the exact location and nature of the alleged missile strike remain unclear.
