The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has commenced a nationwide screening exercise for artisans and skilled workers as part of its strategy to enhance Nigeria’s human capital and increase the competitiveness of Nigerian professionals in the global market.

The programme aims to identify, certify, and upgrade the skills of artisans in various trades, including welding, electrical installation, plumbing, and other technical vocations. ITF Director-General, Mr. Ahmed Ari, stated that the exercise is critical to addressing skill gaps and positioning Nigerian artisans for international opportunities. “A well-trained and certified workforce is key to Nigeria’s economic growth and global relevance,” he said.

Successful candidates will receive international-standard certification and be linked to employment and export opportunities. The ITF has partnered with relevant stakeholders to ensure the programme meets global benchmarks.

The initiative has been welcomed by industry groups, who see it as a step towards reducing unemployment and boosting remittances through skilled labour export.
