Daughter of former Nigerian president and governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Iyabo Obasanjo, has formally informed Bola Ahmed Tinubu of her intention to contest for the state’s governorship.

During a private meeting at the president’s Lagos residence, Obasanjo also shared her vision and plans for Ogun State. Sources familiar with the discussion revealed that the meeting focused primarily on her governorship ambition and her strategic direction for the state.

She outlined key priorities, emphasizing governance, development, and improved public service delivery if elected.

Obasanjo further reflected on her longstanding relationship with President Tinubu, describing it as one rooted in years of political engagement and mutual respect. According to her, this relationship has played a significant role in shaping her political journey and leadership approach.

Speaking on the meeting, she said, “On Monday in Lagos, I had the privilege of meeting His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Our conversation was insightful and forward-looking, focusing on leadership, governance, and the ongoing development of our nation and Ogun State.”

During the visit, the former commissioner also reaffirmed her loyalty to the ruling party and pledged to mobilize support for President Tinubu ahead of the next general election.

Political observers view the meeting as part of ongoing consultations and strategic alignments ahead of upcoming electoral contests in Ogun State and across the country.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
