JAMB DISMISSES CLAIMS OF ASSIGNING CANDIDATES TO EXAMINATION CENTRES OUTSIDE CHOSEN TOWNS
he Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has strongly denied allegations that it places candidates in examination centers outside their selected towns, describing such accusations as "false" and "harmful."
In a statement issued to the media on Saturday, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the spokesperson for JAMB, addressed the false claims, urging the public to dismiss them.
Benjamin clarified that candidates have the freedom to select their preferred examination town during registration, and JAMB assigns them to a Centre within that same town. He emphasized that the claim that candidates are sent to different towns for their exams is completely untrue, and is part of a smear campaign intended to damage the Board’s reputation.
“It is important to note that at the time of registration, candidates are allowed to choose their examination town. JAMB then assigns them to a Centre within that town,” Benjamin explained. He also pointed out that these misleading claims have been propagated by certain parents and school authorities.
In an effort to combat these unfounded allegations, JAMB announced a reward for anyone who can provide legitimate proof of a candidate being assigned to a Centre outside their chosen town. The public has been encouraged to submit such proof to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) via their WhatsApp number, 08056003030, within the next 96 hours. The FCCPC will verify the evidence and, if proven true, deliver the reward or clear JAMB's name.
To further explain, Benjamin compared the 90-minute pre-examination verification process at CBT centers to the widely accepted practice of air travelers arriving at airports two hours before their flight. He noted that candidates are required to arrive early to complete necessary checks.
Benjamin appealed to the public to trust JAMB and other agencies in their efforts to serve the public and ensure transparency in all activities.
In a lighter moment, he also shared a story of a female candidate who, following her grandfather’s advice, refrained from attempting any questions during her exam, waiting for a miraculous intervention instead. Benjamin noted this as an example of extreme gullibility.
Benjamin concluded by reiterating JAMB’s commitment to serving the public and ensuring a fair and transparent examination process.
