The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has identified Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in Anambra and Imo states as the worst offenders in fingerprint-related malpractices during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

According to data presented at JAMB's 2025 policy meeting on Tuesday, a total of 19 centres across the country were caught engaging in such fraud. Anambra had the highest number with six centres involved, followed by Imo with four. Other states with implicated centres include Abia, Edo, Kano (two centres), as well as Ebonyi, Delta, Kaduna, Rivers, and Enugu with one centre each.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed that some impersonators went as far as using albinos to manipulate biometric systems through techniques such as image distortion and remote uploads.

In a related development, two individuals have been charged before the Federal High Court in Katsina for alleged impersonation during the 2025 UTME. Prosecutor Abdussalam Danmaidaki told the court that Bolanwu Emmanuel arranged for Ibrahim Abdulaziz to sit for the exam on his behalf at Zee Alpha International School, Funtua, using his registration number: 2025515278JA.

Danmaidaki stated that both individuals violated provisions of the Examination Malpractice Act, Cap E15, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. Abdulaziz allegedly assumed Emmanuel’s identity to write the exam, an act punishable under Sections 3(1)(a)(b) and 3(2)(c) of the Act.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty. The prosecution requested time to bring forth witnesses. Justice Hussaini Dadan-Garba adjourned the matter to July 18 for trial proceedings.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
