The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to accredit 1,039 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, revealed during an accreditation tour in Ilorin that 52 examination teams are deployed across the country to re-accredit centres or disqualify those failing to meet the board’s standards. He stressed that previous approval does not guarantee continued eligibility, noting that some centres previously implicated in malpractice attempted to resurface.

To prevent recurrence, JAMB is collaborating with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to block directors of blacklisted centres from reopening elsewhere. Staff and proctors involved in malpractice have had their NINs flagged, while computers from delisted centres are permanently barred from the system. Breaches have prompted involvement from security agencies.

Prof. Veronica Mejabi, Chief Technical Adviser for the Kwara State accreditation team, outlined key criteria: centres must implement a specified network topology, provide alternative power sources, and meet soft requirements such as holding areas, adequate toilets, and CCTV installation.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), cautioned candidates against examination malpractice, warning that any cheating will result in strict consequences.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
