JIBRIN CONDEMNS BANDIT ATTACK ON CONSTITUENCY, CALLS FOR JUSTICE
Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has condemned the attack on Zurin Mahauta village in Lakwaya town, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, describing it as unacceptable and calling for prompt action against the perpetrators.
In a statement shared on his official X handle, @barauijibrin, the lawmaker said the assault occurred on Sunday night and was carried out by armed criminals.
“Last night’s invasion of Zurin Mahauta village by marauding gunmen is condemnable, and these criminals must be dealt with immediately,” Jibrin said.
He added that residents indicated the attackers came from outside Kano State.
“My constituents informed me that the assailants came from neighbouring states,” he stated.
Jibrin confirmed that security operatives have made progress in rescuing some of the victims abducted during the attack.
“The good news is that security operatives have rescued three out of the five people kidnapped,” he said.
He commended the security agencies for their swift response and urged them to continue efforts to rescue the remaining victims.
“I commend the security operatives for promptly rescuing three individuals and urge them to persist in securing the remaining two,” he added.
Expressing concern that the attack disrupted weeks of relative peace in the area, Jibrin stressed that such incidents must not continue.
“This unfortunate attack must be the last in the series of assaults on our peace-loving people. For weeks, our area has been free from attacks until last night,” he noted.
He appealed to security agencies to strengthen surveillance and protection in the affected communities.
“I call on our gallant security operatives to redouble efforts in fortifying these areas and remain vigilant against these marauding criminals,” Jibrin said.
Reaffirming his commitment to public safety, the lawmaker added, “The security of our people’s lives and properties is paramount. I will continue to support the security agencies in performing their duties.”
