JIGAWA FARMERS RAISE CONCERN OVER SPREAD OF FAKE FERTILISERS
Farmers in Jigawa State have voiced growing concerns about the increasing presence of substandard fertilisers in local markets.
Speaking after a recent executive meeting, the state chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Engr. Auwal Garba Ibrahim, highlighted the threat these fake products pose to agricultural productivity.
He noted that AFAN has engaged the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council (FCCPC) to tackle the issue. The council reportedly promised to implement strict measures against manufacturers and vendors involved in the distribution of low-quality fertilisers.
Engr. Ibrahim called on farmers to stay alert and report any suspected cases of adulterated or poor-quality fertilisers to both the association and appropriate government agencies.
He emphasized that the circulation of such products could severely impact national food security, and underscored the need to protect farmers from being exploited in order to maintain stable agricultural production.
