JIGAWA POLICE SEIZE 27 VEHICLES OVER TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS

The Jigawa State Police Command has impounded 27 vehicles and prosecuted their drivers for allegedly violating traffic regulations during an ongoing road safety enforcement operation across the state.

The exercise, known as Operation Velvet, is aimed at improving compliance with traffic laws and reducing practices that could endanger road users.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, said the operation is being intensified under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala.

According to the command, the affected vehicles were intercepted for offences including overloading, driving without valid licences and the use of unauthorised tinted permits.

The drivers were subsequently charged before the appropriate courts, while the vehicles were impounded as part of the legal process.

Adam said the operation was not targeted at any individual or group but was designed to encourage discipline among motorists and protect lives and property.

He urged drivers to ensure they have valid licences, comply with vehicle registration and roadworthiness requirements, and avoid overloading.

The police said Operation Velvet would continue across major towns, highways and other strategic locations in Jigawa, as authorities intensify efforts to promote safer roads across the state
