JULIUS BERGER STARTS EMERGENCY REPAIRS ON DELTA ROAD
Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has commenced emergency repairs on the collapsed section of the East-West Road at Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The company is also assessing options for a permanent solution, which could involve constructing a mini-bridge or a multi-cell culvert, depending on the outcome of ongoing hydraulic assessments.
Julius Berger Regional Manager, Fredrick Wieser, said the company was conducting surveys and working on the design of the permanent structure.
He explained that the current work was intended to restore traffic flow while the appropriate long-term solution was being determined.
The road section collapsed following about six days of heavy rainfall, with the volume of water passing through the area contributing to the failure.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said the state government was prepared to fund the permanent remedial works, while restoring traffic remained the immediate priority.
Oborevwori said the East-West Road was a major route connecting Delta with Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
He said Julius Berger was contacted immediately after the collapse because of the company’s experience in handling emergency road interventions.
