KANO GOVERNOR PROMISES END TO DELAYS IN PAYING PUBLIC SERVANTS’ BENEFITS
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has assured public servants and former political office holders that his administration will no longer tolerate delays in the payment of lawful benefits and entitlements.
The governor gave the assurance on Wednesday during the disbursement of severance gratuities, accommodation allowances, and leave grants to 1,371 former councillors who served between 2021 and 2024. The exercise, held at the Coronation Hall of the Government House in Kano, marked the completion of the final phase of payments, with a total of ₦8.26 billion released to beneficiaries.
Governor Yusuf described the payment as part of deliberate reforms introduced by his administration to prevent the accumulation of unpaid benefits in the future. He said no public servant should be left in doubt or distress over what rightfully belongs to them after serving the people.
“Our goal is simple: never again should those who serve the public be left in uncertainty about their entitlements,” the governor said, adding that timely payment of benefits is essential to restoring confidence in government and motivating those currently in service.
He explained that clearing the backlog of unpaid allowances was not just a financial decision but a moral responsibility aimed at rebuilding trust between the government and its workers. According to him, a system that honours its obligations creates a more dedicated and productive workforce.
Yusuf also called on residents to continue supporting his administration’s drive for transparent, accountable, and compassionate governance, stressing that Kano’s progress depends on fairness and respect for those who contribute to its development.
Several beneficiaries confirmed receiving instant payment alerts during the event, with individual sums ranging between ₦5 million and ₦6 million, bringing relief to many who had waited years for their entitlements.
The governor thanked the people of Kano for their support and reiterated his commitment to building a state where public service is valued and sacrifices are duly rewarded.
