The Kano State Judiciary has sacked a Sharia Court judge and suspended several others following findings of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

The Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Abdu, announced the disciplinary actions on Friday after the conclusion of an internal investigation into complaints against some judicial officers. The sacked judge was found guilty of corruption, unethical conduct, and compromising the integrity of the court.

Justice Abdu said the judiciary will not tolerate any form of misconduct among its officers. “We are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. Any judge or staff found wanting will face appropriate sanctions,” she stated.

The suspended officers were found culpable of various infractions including delay in justice delivery, abuse of power, and unethical relationships with litigants. They have been placed on suspension pending further disciplinary processes.

The Kano State Judicial Service Commission had earlier set up a committee to investigate the complaints, which were brought by members of the public and lawyers. The commission’s recommendations were approved by the state governor and subsequently implemented by the judiciary.

Legal practitioners and civil society groups in the state have welcomed the action, describing it as a bold step towards restoring public confidence in the judicial system. The Chairman of the Kano State Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Ibrahim Sani, commended the judiciary for taking decisive action against erring officers.

The development is part of ongoing efforts by the Kano State Judiciary to strengthen internal mechanisms for accountability and improve the quality of justice delivery. The Chief Judge urged judicial officers to uphold the ethics of their profession and serve the people with integrity and impartiality.

The affected officers have been advised to hand over all court documents and properties in their possession. The judiciary has assured the public that the vacancies created will be filled promptly with qualified and upright personnel.
