The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has removed the Divisional Officer in charge of Fagge Division following the death of a suspect while in custody at the command’s facility.

In addition to her removal, all officers and men who were on duty at the Fagge Divisional Office at the time of the incident have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Kano State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the decision followed the constitution of a panel of inquiry set up to carry out a discreet, thorough, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.

“Following the sad incident in which a suspect lost his life in Fagge Divisional Office and the subsequent setting up of a panel of inquiry for a discreet and fair investigation into the case, the State Commandant, NSCDC Kano State Command, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, has approved the removal of the Fagge Divisional Officer, SC Amina Musa Kolawale,” the statement read.

Abdullahi added that a new Divisional Officer, CSC Bashir Isa Abubakar, has been deployed to take over the leadership of the division with immediate effect, ensuring continuity of operations and restoring public confidence.

The NSCDC spokesperson further disclosed that the command was fully cooperating with the police to unravel the circumstances that led to the suspect’s death, stressing that no individual would be shielded from investigation if found culpable.

While appealing to members of the public to remain calm and avoid actions that could heighten tension, the command reassured residents of Kano State of its commitment to professionalism and accountability.

“The NSCDC remains committed to the continuous respect for the sanctity of life, the protection of human rights, and the strict adherence to professionalism, standard operating procedures, integrity, and the rule of law,” Abdullahi said.

He also recalled that the command had earlier set up an internal committee to investigate the unfortunate incident involving the death of a volunteer supporting staff at the Fagge Divisional Office, noting that the outcome of both the internal and police investigations would guide further disciplinary or legal action.

The command reiterated its resolve to ensure justice is served and to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
