The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested 51 people and recovered dangerous weapons and hard drugs in a major operation targeting criminal hideouts across the city.

The operation, which took place over three days — from Friday to Sunday — was carried out in several areas including Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka. It also covered parts of Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas.

In a statement released on Monday, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, said the raids were part of the police’s ongoing efforts to tackle thuggery and other crimes in the state.

He also raised concerns about the growing trend of young people showing off weapons on social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.

“Posting videos of dangerous weapons online only promotes crime and can influence teenagers to join gangs,” he said. “Anyone found doing this will be arrested and charged.”

The police also warned parents, guardians, and blacksmiths against helping or hiding people in possession of weapons, saying they too would be held responsible under the law.

The command urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
