KANO POLICE ARREST FOUR SUSPECTS, RECOVER STOLEN VEHICLES IN TARGETED OPERATIONS
The Kano State Police Command has arrested four individuals and recovered four stolen vehicles in separate operations aimed at curbing car theft across the state.
In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the arrests and recoveries were the result of intelligence-driven operations conducted by the command’s Anti-Car Theft Unit.
He noted that the successes reflect the command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen investigations and enhance security, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
“The success underscores our continued commitment to intelligence-led and technology-driven operations aimed at combating crime in Kano State,” the statement read.
Kiyawa added that the operations also align with the security strategy of the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to safeguard residents.
The first arrest occurred on March 7, 2026, when officers intercepted a dark blue Hyundai Elantra at the Naibawa Flyover Bridge in Kano. Two suspects, Ibrahim Muhd, 29, from Minna, Niger State, and Ahmed Sani, 32, from Abuja, were apprehended while driving the vehicle. Investigations later confirmed the car had been reported stolen in Abuja.
In another operation on March 9, Abdulkarim Mamman, 30, from Malali Quarters, Kaduna State, was arrested with a Honda Civic at Kwanar Dawaki along the Kano–Zaria Expressway. Police said Mamman admitted to stealing the vehicle from Karkasara Quarters in Kano.
Additionally, Yusuf Ali, 28, also from Kaduna State, was arrested in connection with a silver Toyota Corolla stolen from Dutse in Jigawa State. Officers also recovered a white Nissan Sunny believed to have been stolen from a parking lot within Kano metropolis.
All suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. “They are undergoing further investigation, and upon completion, they will be charged to court,” the statement added.
The police commended residents for their support and cooperation, urging continued reporting of suspicious activities. “The command appreciates the public’s assistance and encourages citizens to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station,” Kiyawa said, reaffirming the commitment to ensuring safety across Kano State.
