KATSINA TVET TRAINEES LAMENT DELAY IN TRAINING ALLOWANCES, GRANTS

Trainees under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme at the Federal Polytechnic Daura, Katsina State, have expressed concern over the delay in the payment of their training allowances and start-up grants.

Some of the beneficiaries said they had completed the six-month training programme after spending personal funds on transportation and other expenses, but were yet to receive the allowances, grants, and certificates promised during the programme.

The trainees noted that the delay had left many participants frustrated, arguing that the financial support was intended to help them establish businesses and apply the vocational skills they acquired during the training.

They appealed to the Federal Ministry of Education and the TVET programme management to fulfil the commitments made to participants, saying many enrolled in the programme based on those assurances.

The trainees also called on the management of the Federal Polytechnic Daura TVET Training Centre to provide a clear update on the delay to ease concerns and improve transparency.

Responding to the complaints, the coordinator of the TVET programme at the Federal Polytechnic Daura Centre said the matter had been forwarded to the programme’s management.

He assured participants that payment of the outstanding stipends had already been processed and explained that the delay resulted from efforts to harmonise biometric attendance records across training centres.

The coordinator added that the start-up grants would be released after the ongoing assessment of participants’ records and the completion of the certification process by the awarding body.

The Federal Government’s TVET initiative is designed to provide tuition-free vocational training, monthly stipends, and start-up support to equip participants with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
