KEBBI GOVERNOR DEMANDS ANSWERS AFTER SOLDIERS WITHDRAW 45 MINUTES BEFORE SCHOOL ATTACK
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has called for a full investigation into the conduct of military personnel who reportedly withdrew from their duty post less than an hour before bandits attacked a secondary school in the state.
The Governor made the startling revelation on Monday while receiving the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, who visited Birnin Kebbi on a sympathy mission following the recent abduction of students from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasago Local Government Area.
According to Governor Idris, soldiers stationed at the school withdrew at about 3:00 a.m., while the bandits stormed the facility around 3:45 a.m.—a 45-minute window that has raised serious concerns.
He questioned the timing of the withdrawal and demanded clarity on who issued the order.
“I want to appeal to the National Assembly to invite the military to explain who gave the military officers on duty the order to withdraw.
This action calls for thorough investigations because by 3:00 a.m. the military men withdrew, and by 3:45 a.m., the bandits came in and perpetrated their evil intention.”
The Governor expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Nigeria, warning that it appears some individuals may be working deliberately to destabilize the country’s democracy.
He lamented how bandits are able to move in large numbers across long distances without encountering any security checks before vanishing into the bush.
“What are we doing as a nation? The House must do something about the security situation in this country. I believe enemies are working to truncate our democracy.”
Despite the alarming circumstances, Governor Idris assured that both the federal and state governments are intensifying efforts to rescue the abducted students and reunite them with their families.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen also expressed concern over the attack, noting that the House of Representatives stands with Kebbi State during this difficult time.
“We are here to show you our love and concern over what happened, especially when you and Mr President are doing all you can to fix this country. I believe Mr President is doing his best to protect the lives and property of Nigerians,” he said.
The incident has reignited national conversations about security lapses, accountability, and the protection of schools in vulnerable communities.
