Tragedy has struck in Nyamira County after police confirmed the arrest of Gidion Angisa, the prime suspect in the murder of his 20-year-old girlfriend, Faith Kemunto.

Faith, who was set to join Machakos University, went missing in July 2025 after leaving her family home to meet her boyfriend. She never returned, sparking a frantic search by her loved ones and the authorities.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Faith had travelled home from Nairobi on July 27 to prepare for her university admission. On that day, she left to see Angisa but was never seen alive again.

Her family reported her disappearance to Nyamuri Police Station, but initial searches yielded no breakthrough. Detectives later discovered that Angisa had fled to Huruma estate in Nairobi, where he was eventually tracked down. During his arrest, police found him in possession of Faith’s mobile phone.

The investigation took a grim turn when a body believed to be Faith’s was discovered buried in a shallow roadside grave. Following a court order, the remains were exhumed on Thursday, September 4, and are undergoing forensic analysis.

Angisa is currently being held at Ekerenyo Police Station, with detectives granted a 21-day custodial order to continue investigations.

The case is being handled by homicide detectives, forensic experts from the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, and officers in Nyamira.

Faith’s death has left her family and community devastated, with many calling for justice for the young woman whose dreams of starting university were tragically cut short.
