KEYAMO URGES APC TO BACK TINUBU’S 2027 RE-ELECTION BID, WARNS AGAINST HALTING REFORMS
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to throw their full support behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term, stressing that the survival of the administration’s economic reform agenda depends on his re-election.
Speaking on Politics Today, a political programme broadcast by Channels Television on Monday, Keyamo—who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria—warned that a change in leadership in 2027 could derail ongoing reform efforts. He described such an outcome as potentially damaging to the country’s progress.
“What every APC member should focus on right now is ensuring President Tinubu gets re-elected, even if it doesn’t align with their personal interests,” Keyamo said during the interview.
He argued that Nigeria has repeatedly struggled with disjointed policies due to frequent government changes, which often reverse gains made by previous administrations. According to him, halting Tinubu’s economic blueprint midway would be a serious setback.
“It would be a tragedy if another administration comes in 2027 and halts these reforms,” he warned. “This has been our history—uncoordinated and inconsistent policies.”
Keyamo’s remarks appear aimed at strengthening internal party cohesion and discouraging distractions or dissent within the APC as the 2027 presidential race gradually takes shape.
His statements are likely to draw responses from both within the party and across the broader political spectrum, especially amid public concerns over the immediate impacts of Tinubu’s reform policies, including rising living costs.
Since taking office in May 2023, President Tinubu has implemented a series of aggressive reforms, such as eliminating fuel subsidies and unifying exchange rates, with the goal of stabilizing Nigeria’s economy. While these moves have been praised by some economists, they have also sparked public discontent and debates about long-term consequences.
With the next election cycle approaching, Keyamo’s message signals the APC’s intention to frame Tinubu’s re-election as essential for policy consistency and national stability.
