Murder suspect Benjamin Nnanyereugo claims a fatal wound occurred during a ten-minute struggle over a steak knife inside his Ajah apartment before he fled the country

Benjamin Best Nnanyereugo, popularly known as "Killaboi," has told a Lagos State High Court sitting at the J.I.C. Taylor Courthouse, Igbosere, that he accidentally stabbed his 21-year-old girlfriend, Augusta Osedion, during a heated domestic conflict inside his Ajah apartment.

Testifying in his defence before Justice Harrison, Nnanyereugo recounted the events of July 13, 2023, stating that an argument erupted after he confronted Osedion over financial demands and alleged infidelity. According to the defendant, the confrontation escalated when Osedion allegedly threatened him with a steak knife, prompting him to attempt to disarm her.

Nnanyereugo testified that both held onto opposite ends of the weapon for nearly ten minutes before he managed to gain control of the handle, at which point Osedion sustained a fatal stab wound to her stomach and collapsed. He told the court that he attempted to apply first aid using a towel to stem the bleeding before fleeing out of panic.

The defendant, who remained on the run for two years before being apprehended in Doha, Qatar, and extradited to Nigeria to face a two-count charge of murder, pleaded not guilty to the prosecution's claims. Justice Harrison adjourned further hearing on the trial to December 7 and 8, 2026
