KOGI COMMUNITIES SET FOR FIVE-HOUR POWER INTERRUPTION DURING TCN MAINTENANCE

Parts of Kogi State are expected to experience a five-hour electricity outage as the Transmission Company of Nigeria carries out its annual preventive maintenance at the Ajaokuta 330/132kV Transmission Substation. The exercise is scheduled for September 1, 2026, between 10am and 3pm, and is expected to temporarily affect electricity supply to customers served through the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.

TCN said the maintenance will enable its technical team to work on the bay switchgear and associated equipment on the 132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Line 1. During the exercise, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to receive electricity from the affected transmission facility for onward distribution to customers in the areas connected to the line.

The communities expected to be affected include Adogo, Anyigba, Ganaja and adjoining areas. According to TCN, the planned interruption is necessary to ensure that critical transmission equipment remains in good working condition and to reduce the possibility of unexpected faults that could result in longer or more extensive power disruptions.

The company apologised to electricity consumers in the affected communities for the inconvenience the exercise may cause and said supply would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed. Residents, households and businesses in the affected areas have therefore been advised to make appropriate arrangements for the five-hour period.

The maintenance forms part of TCN’s routine efforts to improve the reliability and stability of the national transmission network. Regular servicing of substations, transmission lines and related equipment allows technical teams to identify and address potential problems while improving the performance of infrastructure responsible for transmitting electricity to distribution companies and, ultimately, consumers.
