KOGI GOV ODODO PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR PENSION REFORMS IN MEETING WITH PENCOM
The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has revealed that Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has pledged his full support for ongoing pension reforms in the country.
PenCom disclosed this in a statement on Monday following Governor Ododo’s courtesy visit to the Commission’s Director-General, Omolala Oloworaran.
During the meeting, the governor outlined steps his administration has taken to improve the welfare of retirees in Kogi, including:
Ensuring regular gratuity payments to pensioners.
Working to clear outstanding pension liabilities in the state.
Governor Ododo also emphasized that his advocacy for pension sector reforms began even before he assumed office, noting that he remains committed to building a sustainable system that secures the future of workers after retirement.
In her response, PenCom boss Oloworaran praised the governor’s dedication and reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to partner with the Kogi State Government. She stressed that collaboration is key to strengthening pension administration and protecting the welfare of both workers and retirees.
The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming a shared vision of a transparent, sustainable pension system that guarantees financial security for Nigerians in retirement.
This development comes at a time when the pension sector is under public scrutiny. Recently, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed a pension increment for police officers, tasking PenCom with its implementation. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a strike threat if the federal government fails to constitute a governing board for the Commission and meet other demands.
