Yunusa Adamu Dangwani, a prominent Kano politician and former commissioner under Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s administration, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defection, which took place at a ceremony in Kano, was led by APC State Chairman Abdullahi Abbas and also saw several former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) join the ruling party.

Dangwani’s move is seen as a significant blow to Kwankwaso, given their long-standing political association.

Dangwani expressed his confidence in the APC’s vision and organisational strength, stating that he was joining the party because of its structure, leadership, and resolve to fulfill its promises to Nigerians.

“I am aligning with a party that I believe has the structure, leadership, and resolve to fulfil its promises to Nigerians,” he said.

His departure could significantly weaken the NNPP's influence in Kano, a crucial stronghold in northern Nigeria. This move is considered a major blow to the party, especially given Dangwani’s longstanding association with Kwankwaso, the current leader of the NNPP.
