KWARA COUNCIL HOLDS EMERGENCY TALKS AMID ALLEGED BANDITS’ WARNING
The Chairman of Oyun Local Government in Kwara State, Akanbi Kamar Olarewaju, on Friday convened an emergency security meeting at the council secretariat in Ilemona following a widely circulated letter warning of a possible attack by armed bandits on parts of the local government area.
Addressing security agencies, traditional rulers, and key stakeholders, the chairman said the letter, allegedly from unknown individuals claiming to have relocated from Kaiama Local Government, threatened attacks on the Irra and Aho/Inaja axis.
While the council continues to work with security agencies to verify the source and authenticity of the letter, Akanbi emphasized the need for proactive measures to safeguard the public.
He urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious activity or unfamiliar persons across Oyun Local Government, not just in the affected areas.
Akanbi also called for strengthened collaboration between security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders to maintain law and order. He stressed that community policing and timely information-sharing are essential in preventing crime.
The council chairman commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in addressing insecurity nationwide and within the state, pledging Oyun Local Government’s full support for all security initiatives.
He reassured residents that the council would continue to work closely with security agencies to protect lives and property. The chairman prayed for peace and stability in Kwara State and Nigeria, as security agencies and community stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to vigilance and safety, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Owodunni Adekunle.
