KWARA GOVT PROMISES JUSTICE FOR WOMAN LYNCHED OVER FALSE KIDNAP ALLEGATION

The Kwara State Government has vowed to deliver justice after the tragic lynching of a woman wrongly accused of kidnapping in Ilorin.

The victim, identified as Khadijat, a resident of Ile Lase in the Oke-Apomu area, was brutally attacked last week at Ipata Market after being falsely linked to kidnapping activities. Eyewitnesses said she was found with four ATM cards, while her phone was destroyed during the assault.

Despite efforts by the police to rescue her, Khadijat was rushed to the General Hospital in Ilorin, where she later died from severe injuries sustained during the mob attack.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said officers had tried to intervene but could not save her.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Social Development, Hajia Mariam Nnafatima Imam, condemned the act of jungle justice, describing it as “barbaric, uncivilized, and unacceptable.” She stressed that the government would not tolerate lawlessness and urged citizens to always report suspects to security agencies for proper investigation.

Meanwhile, Khadijat’s grieving family has cried out for justice, insisting she was innocent and had long struggled with ill health. In a viral video, her younger sister emotionally recounted how Khadijat lived in poverty, often begging for food while caring for her children.

“She must not die in vain. Those responsible for this wickedness must face justice,” the family appealed, calling on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

The tragic incident has once again raised urgent questions about mob justice in Nigeria and the need for stronger awareness on allowing the law, not anger, to prevail.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
