KWARA: LAFIAGI UNION CAUTIONS AGAINST PLANNED PROTEST OVER KIDNAPPINGS

The Lafiagi Descendants Development Union (LADDU) has distanced itself from a planned protest against kidnappings in Lafiagi Emirate, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In a statement signed by its National President, Dr. Abdullahi Jibril Mohammed, on Friday, the union appealed to the organisers to reconsider their decision, warning that such a protest could be hijacked by troublemakers.

LADDU acknowledged the community’s frustration over the rising cases of abductions, which have left residents in fear and trauma. However, the group noted that it has been engaging with both state and federal authorities to address the security crisis.

“We understand the genuine concerns, but we urge caution. Several interventions are already ongoing, and we are hopeful of positive results soon,” the statement read.

Instead of taking to the streets, the union advised that community members should help identify and expose collaborators aiding criminals. It also urged support for the Emirate Security Committee and the security agencies already working in the area.

The group stressed the importance of unity and coordinated action to effectively tackle kidnapping and restore peace.

“Let us channel our collective resolve into solutions that strengthen security and protect our people,” LADDU said.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
