KWARA POLY DISMISSES 42 STUDENTS AFTER EXAMINATION MISCONDUCT PROBE

The management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has expelled 42 students following investigations into allegations of examination malpractice. The affected students comprise 31 Higher National Diploma students and 11 National Diploma students drawn from different institutes and programmes across the institution. The decision followed the conclusion of investigations by the Polytechnic’s Examination Malpractice Committee.

The Principal Assistant Registrar, Academic Board Matters Division, Ibrahim Esin, disclosed the decision in a statement issued on Monday. He said the students were investigated after allegations of examination malpractice were brought against them and were subsequently found guilty by the committee. According to him, the offences were considered violations of the Matriculation Oath taken by the students when they were admitted into the institution.

The expulsions were approved in line with the provisions of the Polytechnic’s Students’ Handbook. The Institute of Finance and Management Studies recorded the highest number of affected students, with 23 expulsions, followed by the Institute of Technology with eight. The Institute of Information and Communication Technology recorded four, while two students were expelled from the Institute of Health Technology. One student from the Institute of General Studies and four students from the Centre for Continuing Education were also affected.

The expelled students were enrolled in various programmes, including Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Strategic Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Accountancy, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Medical Imaging Technology, Microfinance and Entrepreneurship Development, Social Development, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, and Industrial and Labour Relations. The institution published the names of several of the affected HND and ND students as part of the disciplinary decision.

Esin said the approval of the expulsions had effectively ended the students’ relationship with the Polytechnic. Management also directed all the expelled students to return any property belonging to the institution that remained in their possession. The items are to be handed over to their respective Heads of Department or other designated officials, as the Polytechnic implements the disciplinary decisions following the completion of the examination malpractice investigations.
