LABOUR PARTY NAMES ELECTORAL SUBCOMMITTEE CHAIRS AHEAD OF APRIL 28 CONVENTION
The Labour Party (LP) has announced the appointment of chairmen and members of its electoral subcommittees ahead of its ward, local government, and state congresses, as part of preparations for its National Convention scheduled for April 28, 2026.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman, Ken Asogwa, the party said the subcommittees were set up to oversee the conduct of congresses across the country and ensure a transparent internal electoral process.
According to the party, ward congresses are scheduled for April 23, local government congresses for April 24, while state congresses will hold on April 25, ahead of the national convention in Umuahia, Abia State.
The committees include representatives drawn from across states, with individuals appointed to supervise electoral processes in their respective jurisdictions to ensure credibility and orderliness.
In her message to the appointees, the National Chairman of the party, Senator Nenadi Usman, urged them to perform their duties with fairness, transparency, and integrity.
She stressed that the credibility of the party depended on the conduct of the congresses, adding that internal democracy must reflect the party’s core values of equal opportunity and social justice.
Usman also assured members that adequate preparations had been made for a smooth national convention, reaffirming that the event would hold as planned on April 28 in Umuahia.
The Labour Party said the exercise is part of its broader effort to strengthen internal structures and reposition the party ahead of future elections.
