LABOUR PARTY SETS UP SCREENING COMMITTEE FOR PRIMARIES
The Labour Party has constituted an eight-member committee to screen aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed in a public notice jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, and National Secretary, Iheanacho Obioma, on Friday in Abuja.
According to the notice, the committee was established in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines for the 2026 primaries.
The committee, chaired by Nenadi Usman, includes Mrs Oluchi Okpara, Mohammed Salisu, Mrs Martina Umana, Mrs Deborah Yusuf, Chibuzo Okereke, and Dr Olu Ayewo as members, while Obioma will serve as secretary.
The party stated that the committee would oversee the screening of aspirants contesting for presidential, governorship, and National Assembly positions ahead of the party primaries.
It added that the committee would also verify the authenticity of documents submitted by aspirants and ensure compliance with the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the timetable released by the party, screening for House of Assembly and governorship aspirants will take place on May 20, while National Assembly and presidential aspirants will be screened on May 22.
The Labour Party urged members of the screening committee to carry out their responsibilities with integrity as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
