Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in the state as peaceful, transparent and reflective of the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

Sanwo-Olu spoke on Thursday after casting his vote at Ward E3 on Lagos Island alongside his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.

He said the direct primary system allowed party members to freely choose their preferred aspirant.

“This process shows that our party believes in democracy and inclusiveness,” he said.

The governor noted that the exercise was conducted in an orderly manner, with electoral officials and party representatives performing their duties professionally.

“We have seen electoral officials and party representatives carrying out their duties professionally, and I am impressed with the level of participation at the grassroots,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu also expressed support for Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, who emerged as the sole aspirant in the primary election, describing him as experienced and competent.

“I have confidence in Dr Hamzat’s capacity, competence, and understanding of governance in Lagos State,” he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Lagos Island East LCDA, Alade Folawiyo, commended the turnout during the exercise, describing Hamzat as well-positioned to sustain ongoing development in the state.
