LAGOS APC WARNS: COUNCIL CHAIRMEN MUST LIVE IN THEIR LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has made it clear — if you’re elected to serve as a council chairman or deputy, you must live in your local government area.

This strong directive came from Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the state APC Chairman, during a high-level stakeholders' meeting tagged “Stakeholders’ Special Engagement with Mr. Governor.”

Ojelabi emphasized that any council boss who lives outside their local area will face stiff penalties.

“You must reside in your local government,” he warned. “Any report that says otherwise will attract sanctions.”

The event, hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the State House in Marina, was packed with party leaders and supporters. The governor used the opportunity to present party flags to 57 chairmanship candidates and their running mates, urging them to stay focused and united ahead of the local government elections.

“Every election is local,” said Sanwo-Olu. “Don’t be complacent because APC is in power at the centre and state. Go out, work hard, and earn the people’s trust.

He also reminded council chairmen to work closely with their deputies and avoid running their councils like personal empires. Additionally, he discouraged them from promoting factions or rival caucuses during campaigns, urging them to stand firmly on the APC platform.

A Call for Unity and Grassroots Presence

Sanwo-Olu’s wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, encouraged women to show up in large numbers on election day, emphasizing the importance of unity and peace in the party.

“The power of a woman is her voice,” she said. “Use it to support our candidates and promote a better future.”

Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda also stressed reconciliation among candidates and former aspirants, while GAC Chairman Tajudeen Olusi reminded attendees to shun greed and uphold the legacy of great leaders like Obafemi Awolowo, Lateef Jakande, Bola Tinubu, and Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Eyes on Performance and Presence

Ojelabi wrapped up the session by noting that the party will be monitoring council chairmen's activities and presence in their domains.

“You were elected to serve your people. You must live among them and be accessible. No excuses,” he said.

With elections fast approaching, the APC’s message is loud and clear — leadership starts with presence, accountability, and a deep connection to the grassroots.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
