LAGOS COURT FREES MIKE NWALIE, CLUB SUPERVISOR OF DRUG CHARGES

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has discharged popular socialite and nightclub owner, Mike Nwalie, alongside his club supervisor, Joachim Hillary, after upholding a no-case submission in a drug-related trial.

The case was filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, which had accused the defendants of conspiracy, unlawful possession of hard drugs, and allowing their nightclub premises to be used for alleged drug activities.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa ruled that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case requiring the defendants to enter a defence.

The court held that the evidence presented by the NDLEA amounted only to suspicion, which is insufficient under the law to sustain a criminal charge.

The defendants were previously arraigned over allegations linked to a raid on a Lagos nightclub where substances, including nitrous oxide and cannabis, were reportedly recovered.

However, their counsel argued that there was no credible evidence linking them to ownership or knowledge of the alleged substances, a position the court agreed with.

Following the ruling, the court discharged both defendants, effectively ending the case in their favour.
